Rosy Smiles!

Life is meant to live in the moments! Little incidents in our busy daily lives sometimes bring in a massive impact and our priorities start shuffling from their respectives places. a short episode happened near my house which made me change my thoughts massively.

I have a narrow strip of garden in front of my house in UK. Amongst the few ornamental plants, there is a pink rose plant growing right in front of my bedroom window. During summer this plant miraculously turns beautiful with delicate pink roses playing hide and seek in between the soft green leaves. Being a plant lover, I cherish this cute friend of mine and try to keep away the weeds and plastic bits from the plant’s area. By the way, this plant is easily accessible to passers by as the house faces the busy high street. My love and reverence to this plant is so much that I stricty forbid myself from plucking even a single rose to decorate the Gods. On a Friday evening around 5pm or so, I was watching outside my window, enjoying the fully bloomed rose along with couple of tiny buds. They gave me immense joy and I was planning to plant another rose shrub of the same colour.

A mother and her little daughter enjoying her lollypop were walking in front of my house. The girl simply put her hand inside the iron grills and plucked a rose bud. I was shocked at the turn of the events and almost sprang to my feet to go out and teach the little girl a lesson. But, what happened in the next few mins changed my ways of thinking.

The girl’s mother started talking in a serious way with the little one and by the expressions, I could make out that she was trying to teach her daughter not to pluck flowers before asking the owner’s permission. The little girl’s face drooped down for few mins, but in the next minute she asked her mother for something and I saw the mother giving her 2 chocolates. The little girl kept those chocolates in the inner part of the compound wall with a brilliant smile as if she had found a solution for a big problem. She then looked around probably waiting to spot someone in the house. The window glass being tinted in quality, did not allow her to see inside. They calmly went away. I was smiling with joy even when my pretty rose was harshly plucked by the girl! I went out and collected the chocolates she had left as her token of apologies. Children grow up following the footsteps of their parents. It was nice to see the girl’s mother made her understand the mistake. But, what was thrilling to note is the fact that the child came up with her own sweet little way of saying sorry! 🙂

This little incident inspired me to stop holding onto things, instead I look for positive side of every happenings. Let go is a wonderful magic which keeps the mind calm in today’s materialistic world!

  2. Aw! That was one really wonderful story that warmed my heart. You are right about how quick we are to jump to conclusions and it is really heartening to know that there are parents who do teach their children to be concerned about others.

  5. The incident you have shared is heart touching. My heart blesses the mother of that little girl who taught her girl the lesson of not plucking flowers unasked from others’ gardens and more for the girl who acted with such wisdom. How lovely is this!
    Oh, I didn’t know you are based in the UK as well. Which part of the country do you live in, if I may ask?

    1. Hey Trina. Thanks for stopping by. Indeed, all though we live in this materialistic world, I strongly believe there are many good people who still trust in righteousness. I remember the famous dialogue from the movie Cinderalla – Have courage and be kind! it is very powerful words in my opinion and tough to follow. But try we must all.. 🙂

  13. How happy I am to see such a great bit of parenting; I am not very impressed with the way todays generation handles their children. So this is very refreshing to see and read about Anju – thanks for sharing it

    1. Hi Jyothi. Yes, indeed. To bring up children into truly humans is a wonderful responsibility. No amount of education or richness can get this right. Many parents from a small villages teach their kids much more values than the urban educated lot. Thanks for reading my post.
